      Overview

In first-opinion practice, nursing a rabbit can often feel less intuitive than caring for cats or dogs. This course is specifically designed to provide nurses with the knowledge and confidence to deliver an ideal standard of care to these unique patients. Recognising that rabbits are a prey species that instinctively hide signs of illness, the training focuses on identifying subtle behavioural changes before clinical symptoms become critical.

You will explore a comprehensive range of topics, from setting up rabbit-friendly clinics and managing hospitalised patients to the complexities of rabbit anaesthesia and emergency triage. The course also places a strong emphasis on outreach and client education, empowering you to advise owners on the fundamental pillars of rabbit health, including correct nutrition, husbandry, and housing. By the end of this course, you will feel more comfortable and competent in your role, ensuring these sensitive patients receive the specialised care they require.

      Intended learning outcomes

By the end of this course, you should be able to:
      • Identify ways in which you can encourage engagement with rabbit owners
      • Create plans for rabbit-friendly nurse clinics within your practice
      • Identify common health conditions in domesticated rabbits
      • Apply your knowledge to ensure correct care when dealing with hospitalised rabbit patients, anaesthesia, and euthanasia
      • Educate your clients on the proper care of their rabbits, including nutrition, husbandry, housing, and behaviour
“I have always believed, and I still believe, that whatever good or bad fortune may come our way we can always give it meaning and transform it into something of value.”
